MANILA – The latest WR Numero Research survey showing that nearly seven in 10 Filipinos are satisfied with their congressional district representatives is a clear affirmation of the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and the continuing trust of Filipinos in Congress.
“This survey result underscores the confidence of our people not just in their local representatives, but in the collective leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. His steady hand and vision for a Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) guide the House of Representatives to remain focused on the needs of our communities,” Senior Deputy Speaker and Quezon 2nd District Rep. David Suarez said in a news release on Tuesday, referring to the latest Philippine Public Opinion Monitor of WR Numero.
The WR Numero survey, conducted July 29 to Aug. 6, showed 68-percent approval for district representatives, with only 7 percent dissatisfied and another 7 percent saying they do not know their representatives.
Suarez said the strong ratings reflect the importance of constituency support in Philippine democracy.
“The role of a congressman goes beyond lawmaking inside the halls of Batasan. It is about being present in the lives of our constituents — listening to their needs, finding solutions to their daily struggles and ensuring that government resources are delivered to the grassroots. That is the essence of representation,” he said.
He added that this bond between the people and their representatives is the foundation of effective nation-building.
“Nation-building begins in every district. When Filipinos feel that their voices are heard and their welfare is protected, it strengthens not only our democracy but also our collective drive to move the country forward,” he said. (PNA)
