KAWIT, Cavite (PIA) – More than a commemoration of history, this year’s celebration of Araw ng Kalayaan in Cavite paid tribute to the men and women who fought for our country’s independence.
On June 12, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), provincial government of Cavite, and the Philippine Navy led the Araw ng Kalayaan celebration at Liwasang Aguinaldo. Beyond the vibrant and colorful activities, Caviteños took the time to honor veterans and their legacies.
Celso Voluntad, a veteran and the Regional Vice President of the Veterans’ Federation of the Philippines, thanked the local government for continuously commemorating the Araw ng Kalayaan and keeping the spirit of their sacrifices alive.
“Nais naming magbigay paalala sa buong sambayanang Pilipino kung ano ang dinaanan naming pakikipaglaban sa mga manlulupig sa ating bayan. Natutuwa kami bilang mga beterano na nararamdaman namin dito sa aming puso na kami ay binibigyang pagpapahalaga lalo na ngayong ipinagdiriwang ang ating Araw ng Kalayaan.”
Having witnessed pivotal chapters of history, Voluntad emphasized Cavite’s rich heritage that must be passed down to future generations.
“Ang aming bayan ay punong-puno ng kasaysayan na dapat maipamulat sa ating kabataan.”
Governor Francisco Gabriel “Abeng” Remulla echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that true independence is a commitment that must be reflected in one’s values and choices.
“Let us take a moment to reflect on our values and morals as we continue to honor this special day. The fate of the republic should not be shaped by circumstance alone, rather it shall be forged and strengthened by the right choices we make today.”
Remulla added, “May we remember that the freedom we enjoy was earned through literal blood and sweat of our forefathers. May we become a nation where true freedom is celebrated and embodied through our actions and commitment to one another.”
Centered on the theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”, Vice Governor Ram Revilla, Kawit Mayor Armie Aguinaldo, and NHCP Historic Sites and Education chief Gina Batuhan joined the solemn celebration. (PB-PIA CALABARZON)
