Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno recognized Rear Admiral Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr. and the Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) for their continued efforts in securing the country’s maritime borders following the successful conduct of maritime enforcement operations that led to the confiscation of approximately P99.65 million worth of alleged contraband in Western Mindanao from August 28 to September 3.
The operations resulted in the seizure of undocumented diesel fuel valued at P72.17 million, smuggled foreign-brand cigarettes and a motor vessel worth P27.23 million, and illegally transported Lauan lumber valued at P251,999.
Commissioner Nepomuceno said the accomplishment reflects NCWM’s commitment to maritime security and its crucial role in deterring illicit activities within the country’s waters.
“I commend Rear Admiral Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr. and the men and women of the Naval Command Western Mindanao for their dedication and professionalism in carrying out their mandate. Ang patuloy ninyong pagbabantay sa ating mga karagatan ay mahalaga sa pagpapanatili ng seguridad at kaayusan sa ating maritime domain,” Commissioner Nepomuceno said.
The Commissioner noted that the operation highlights the important role of frontline maritime forces in protecting the country’s borders and preventing the movement of illicit goods.
“Ang tagumpay na ito ay sumasalamin sa kahandaan, disiplina, at malasakit ng ating mga maritime enforcers sa kanilang tungkulin. We recognize and appreciate the efforts of NCWM and its partner agencies in helping safeguard our borders and protect the public from the harmful effects of illicit trade,” he added.
Commissioner Nepomuceno reaffirmed the Bureau of Customs’ support for law enforcement and military agencies working to strengthen border security and uphold the rule of law.
